Fresh Squeezed Homemade Lemonade

This easy and quick recipe can be made up in a dash to cool and bring a smile to the “all tucker out” children from an afternoon of play, sweaty and hard-working husbands, or for a cookout dinner with friends and family this weekend!

When my children were young, they would help me squeeze the lemons and measure the sugar, and now it’s a beautiful memory. I encourage you to take those sweet, fleeting moments with your children to cultivate life long memories. After all, it’s truly the simple, little things that make up our lives. Take time this weekend to remember that, while making this delightful lemonade to enjoy with them this Fourth of July weekend.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh lemon juice, about 6-8 lemons
  • 4 1/2 - 5 cups water, divided

Instructions

  • Combine sugar and 2 cups water in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
  • Strain the lemon juice through a fine-mesh sieve into a 2-quart pitcher. Add simple syrup and stir to combine. Refrigerate until cold.
  • When ready to serve, add 2 1/2 cups of cold water and stir. Taste, and add more water if it's too sweet.
  • Serve with ice, thinly sliced lemons and fresh mint, if desired.

Notes

Makes about 7 cups of lemonade.
